For a Colorado native, I detest winter. If it were possible for Spring to hit as soon as Christmas passed, I’d be all over it. So in honor of that, I give you, my top 10 Beauty faves for Spring!
Becca First Light Priming Filter. This primer is incredible. It’s lavender in color but smells almost lemony upon application. It ” Brightens and evens out the appearance of imperfections by softly scattering translucent, cool violet light. It hydrates and revives skin with mineral-rich spring water, prickly pear flower, and sodium hyaluronate” according to their website. Just put in on after your moisturizer, but before your makeup, and I promise you’re skin will look dewy as fuck.
Buxom Primer-Infused Blush. I have tried a zillion blushes and never been a fan of any of them until I stumbled upon this one. It gives you a hint of color that stays all day, but it’s not so strong that you’ll look like your great aunt Bertha with bright red clown cheeks. It’s a powder blush but goes on so silky, you’d think it’s cream more than powder. I love the color “Havana”.
Buxom Lip Polishing Cream: I’ve gone through more tubes of this stuff than I care to admit. Bonus – it makes your lips tingle and plumps them up while also making them smell like mint. My favorite shade is Pink Lady but Gin Fizz is nice if you are wanting a glossy look without the color.
Pronexa Hairgenics Lash Growh Serum: A random product, I realize, but I am not good about keeping secrets, especially when I find hidden gems like this. I tried it on a whim and it did make my lashes grow faster and longer. I’m not great about remembering to use it, but when I do, I notice a big difference.
L’oreal Paris Magic Lumi: If you haven’t caught on yet, spring time to me means dewiness galore. If you aren’t into primers, just slap this stuff on, put a little concealer on, swipe on some bronzer and mascara, and you’re out the door! This stuff is worth it’s weight in gold and every time I wear it without much other makeup on, my husband compliments me. (Or maybe it’s because I usually just pair it with mascara and he is a fan of the minimalist look?) I also will add a bit to the tops of my cheek bones to make them look more prominent and it works like a fuckin’ charm. It’s my secret weapon!
Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer: This is yet another drug store item that is severely underrated. It smells like sunscreen and coconut and it beats out even my high-end Chanel and Marc Jacobs bronzers. I love the tones in it – it’s not too brown and not too orange and it goes on like butter. I dare you not to love this shit.
St. Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse: I even got my husband onto this gem. Avoid the sticker shock! I’ve had the same bottle for three years now and we both use it before every vacation. I recommend getting the tanning mitt (of any brand, it doesn’t need to be the St. Tropez mitt) for easier application. Directions: Shave and exfoliate in the shower. Once out of the shower, dry off, put a few pumps of this stuff on your mitt, and in circular motions, spread it over any areas you want tanned. I use about 3 pumps for each leg and 1-2 for my arms. If you put it on your face, I find it is better to use a makeup brush to rub it in versus the mitt or your hands. (Orange hands are dead give-away that your tan is fake – thus my adoration of the mitt.) Let your skin dry for about 5-10 minutes before getting dressed, and I also recommend putting on dark clothes. This shit will temporarily turn your clothes brown (but it does wash right out.) Leave the mousse on 1-3 hours, depending how dark you want the tan to get, then hop in the shower and rinse it off. It will continue to get darker on your skin over the next 24 hours. *They also make a clear version of it that you don’t need to rinse off, but whatever is in the clear version made my face break out in hives!!! It didn’t break out the rest of my body, just my face! I shit you not, it took a full week for it to go back to normal. Needless to say, don’t look too closely at our Cabo pics from our 2018 trip. Avoid the shit show yourself and do a test patch to make sure you aren’t allergic to it!
Moroccanoil Hair Mask: The changing of weather wreaks havoc on my naturally curly hair. Out of every hair product I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a shit ton) this is the best hair mask I’ve found. I use it once a week. After you shampoo, slap a couple tablespoons full of this on your hair, massage it through, and let it sit while you shave, etc. Then rinse it out right before you get out of the shower. It’s best if you can keep it on for 10 minutes. I promise, your brush will run through your hair so easily after you use it! If you like this brand, also try their hair treatment oil. I use about a dime size amount on the lower half of my hair to protect it from heat before blow-drying.
The Body Shop Body Butter: While we’re on the topic of staying moisturized, this lotion is the best! Every year at Christmas, my mom and I gift each other different sets of it because it’s our old faithful. My favorite scent is Satsuma because it smells like oranges and happiness. These body butters are made with fair trade shea and cocoa butters and are packed with vitamins A, E, and F.
Kiehl’s Super Fluid Mineral Defense Titanium Dioxide SPF 50: This is one of my favorite face sunscreens and I wear it year-round. It seems pricey for the size of bottle you get, but I promise it’ll last you longer than you think because a tiny bit goes a loooooong way.
Feel free to comment below with your Spring must-have beauty products! I’m always itching to try new things, but the things listed above are ones I’ve used over and over again without regret!
