It’s no secret I love a good Boo Basket! If you don’t now what a Boo Basket is, it’s an inexpensive Halloween bucket or basket filled with Halloween treats. You leave it on a neighbor’s porch anonymously with a little note or card telling them they have “been Boo’d!” You also include a “I’ve been boo’d” sign that they hang up in their window so that other neighbors can see they’ve already been gifted some Halloween goods. Then, when it’s your turn to boo someone, you can hit up a neighbor that hasn’t already been boo’d!

It’s just a fun little tradition to start on your street to bring the neighborhood together. For this installation, I made kid-friendly boo baskets using only Target items from Bullseye’s Playground! (The dollar spot.) You can find similar items at Dollar Tree or at Amazon, but I am a Target girl through and through. Let’s dive in!

The boo baskets themselves:

The baskets you see here are the Bullseye’s Playground jelly bags new for Halloween 2023. People have been going a little nuts for them which cracks me up, but alas, I got my hands on some for my kids and my neighbors. If your Target has run out, just use a good ol’ fashion $1 jack-o-lantern bucket!

The non-candy boo basket contents:

For the non-candy items, just have fun perusing Bullseye’s Playground for cheap trinkets. I included a rubber duck, wind-up toy, “beady bud” orby bead Halloween character, and a Halloween cup, and some Halloween socks. I also always love to toss in a glow-in-the-dark Halloween necklace that kids can wear trick-or-treating so drivers can see them easier. You’ll see I also bought flashing light key chains that I clipped on the front of each jelly bag. Those were also just $1 and when you click a button on top of them, they flash. They’re great to attach to your child’s trick-or-treat bucket for added visibility. (Can you tell I don’t trust drivers watching out for little kids on Halloween night?)

The baskets above, I made for my own kids. My 10-year-old’s favorite color is orange, and my 7-year-old’s favorite color is purple, so I am lucky those are Halloween colors. And since these were for my own kids, I also tossed in a Halloween book I thought they’d love (also from Target), plus a Halloween mini squishmallow since they’re obsessed with squishmallows. Besides that, every other item was found in Bullseye’s Playground!

Candy items for the boo basket:

This is the easy shit! Just find some fun Halloween candy and toss it in. If you’re boo’ing a neighbor without kids, remove the trinket crap and replace it with decor from Bullseye’s Playground instead. And I always toss in pumpkin beers too! I’ll be posting another blog shortly of the baskets I’m making for my adult neighbors this year. In lieu of rubber ducks/necklaces/orby toys, I replaced them with Halloween oven mitts, wine glasses, glass pumpkins, Halloween cookie cutters and ice molds, and decorative mini Halloween potion bottles. All items I sourced from Target!

Now, for the sake of content creation, my kids actually got two boo baskets this year. (Lucky shits!) I also made them pink ones just because I adore pink Halloween decor. Here is the blog showcasing their pink boo baskets and where I sourced all of the contents from. To see the boo baskets I gave to neighbors last year, click here. (Most of the shit in these were from Target/Bullseye’s Playground too!) And to see boo baskets I had featured in Good Housekeeping, click here. Thanks as always for reading!
